1st of all… as always, thank you for reading my blog. Those of you whom I meet in person, often are surprised at how excited I am to find out that people are reading this on a regular basis. Some of you have notified me that the site’s been running a bit slow, so …. I am trying to remedy that. I’ve installed the latest WordPress 2.3, which is revolutionary in new features and capabilities. I’ve configured a new caching system as well, to try and get all the pages and posts loading faster. However, I am still looking to migrate over to Drupal. I’ve had a lot of my friends recommend Joomla – but.. I’m a visual / auditory learner…. so, I just can’t find enough Joomla training material to make me happy. Sure, they got the “out of the box” stuff… and there’s even a few nice modules you can purchase… but while I was told that Drupal has less contributions, I am quite happy with what they have, and the training I’ve found has blown me away. Definitely enough stuff to be able to reverse-engineer some fancy sites. I’ve even checked out a training kit called “Joomla Magic” and I still didn’t find it nearly as informational as Drupal-Dojo, Lulabot, and Drupal-School… all free. I might have to invest in much more coffee, but now there are ways to interface Drupal with Adobe Flex to create some extremely high-end interactive Rich Internet Applications.
If you need a website that’s interesting, that you can maintain yourself, and that has a lot of functionality, I am actually starting a small company specializing in just these. High-end graphics, mixed with rich content, and you the user can control it — so you don’t have to call me up to say “Umm… can we change what our about page says?” Free tip though! Good content still trumps good design, so … make sure you have something interesting to say… the blog, commenting systems, e-commerce, etc… I can handle, and am even increasing my team size to get you better sites, more quickly.
