Panic at the Disco! Plain White T’s! Dashboard Confessional! What a concert! and… an interesting thought on relationships.
adventure, music Add commentsAnother amazing day. My 1st vote, a great session @ the gym, a great piano lesson, and then an amazing concert. I also learned that my date knows MASSIVE quantities about me– compliments of my blog… What does this mean for a relationship? So, if someone knows me, what directions can we go? Is there a CouchSurferette coming? Read on for all the details.
For free tickets, these seats were badass! The stadium was fairly empty, and we were able to move around, and get a great view. There were tons of kids there. The music was phenomenal. It’s been a while since I’ve been to a concert… I saw The Decemberists in Chicago, but that was a unique show. I’m talking about a concert at the arena type of things… mainstream / ticketmaster. I think it was Death Cab For Cutie in 2006. A friend took me then too (and to a rep-dinner where we got 5* dining for listening to some pharma rep speak). That was when I noticed everyone uses cell phones instead of lighters. There were some lighters then… tonight, I didn’t see one. Everyone had digital cameras, iphones, etc.. and were broadcasting the entire concert, taking videos, taking photos. It was bizzare. i forgot that bands open for other bands. So, I was told we’re going to see Panic At The Disco… but when we sat down, Plain White T’s came on, and put on quite a great show. I mentioned that I shot them, and Tracy asked me about it…I laughed and said “I just got a letter of recommendation from my friend Delilah (Couch 4)! ” “So did you make them call her when you shot them?” “ACTUALLY! I DID!!! I made the Plain White T’s call my friend Delilah and say Hey There Delilah… and leaver her a message on her machine.” She was like “Ah huh!” So… I started texting Delilah about it – and she replied “That was the coolest day ever!” - later Tracy says “I have a confession…” “Please don’t tell me you’re a dude!” “No… I… I read your blog.” So… she knew I had shot them, saw my picture with them, and knew about the Delilah thing. In fact…. she knew most things about me from the last 2 years basically!! I wonder what the ramifications to that are in a relationship! I mean… what’s it like knowing what your other likes, dislikes, has done, has wanted, has felt, who he knows, where has been, what has fought about with their significant other… what if you knew that wiithin one week of knowing the person? This is not hypothetical… this is real. This is my life.
I think it’s kind of cool. I mean, it’s an unfair advantage, but I look forward to the discovery. I like to earn my keep. I like to do my own research. I also asked Tracy if I can name her in this blog, and she said it’s fine… so long as I don’t talk badly about her. This was clearly a funny opportunity to say “Sure… just don’t do anything that requires me to, and we got a deal.” I think there’s going to be a lot to blog about. I’ve been enjoying my weekend CouchSurfing trips that I’ve been doing. I asked Tracy if she’d like to start going on weekend CouchSurfing adventures with me… so… yes folks, the blog is going to pick back up with more pictures, and more adventures. Adventures across this great country of ours (hehehe– not vice-president palin used to use that sentence a lot)…. Adventures in relationships…. Adventures in business…. and of course adventures in life. Perhaps you’ll get to meet her in an upcoming article. Back to the concert!
So… Plain White T’s opened up, and put on a great show. Then Dashboard Confessional came on, and did an amazing show… and to end it, they had Plain White T’s come on to join them, and he starts talking about how “You ever get a song stuck in your head? Like… you can’t get it out, and you can just listen to it over and over? Well… here’s that song!” And they did a duet cover of Pink’s “So What” Dashboard Confessional and Plain White T’s covering ”So What” by Pink. They reallllly did a great job! Tracy and I were bouncing to the sounds. I think I know I’m comfortable around a person when I can sing and dance around them… usually I’m shy about that kind of stuff. The other cool thing about Dashboard Confessional, is that the lead singer kept running backstage, and coming out to tell us what the electoral vote count was. I think it’s great that musicians are being good role models and telling the kids to go out and vote. I know it ain’t everyone’s grandparents that got Obama elected!
The most bizarre thing about the evening was that there were commercials between bands… giant commercials played mostly for Rock Band (That video game that couch 63 had, where you play the plastic guitar, drums, bass, and microphone and have to match what the notes on the screen show you). Then there was a live Rock Band showdown or something… these kids got on stage, and jammed out to various songs… but you can’t hear them, you just see them playing their game instruments, and jumping around like real rock-stars… It was quite baffling to me…. ’cause you can see the game screen behind them (HUGE)…. so…. there’s kids on stage playing a video game, and the crowd goes wild! The game itself looks quite amazing by the way… the new graphics are mind-blowing. I wonder how much they spent on that game, and on its marketing, and sponsor deals..
The arena was freezing cold! I left my jacket in the car. Tracy was kind enough to let me hold her and borrow some body temperature. See.. when I say “She’s hot!” I”m not just being figurative!
Panic At The Disco put on quite a show… they had a 2 level performance… the drummer and the keyboard player were on a platform, and the rest of the band was on the stage level. The kids were shouting up a storm. The lights were extremely bright, and even beautiful. I was watching the sea of people awash with shades of purple, orange, blue, yellow…. the different colors creating a glow around the backlit sillhuettes of people. All I know is that if I had my camera with me, I’d've been taking many pictures of the crowd, as well as the bands. They would’ve come out amazing! Their music was intricate, sometimes with two drummers, and two pianists. The lyrics are witty enough. The overall sound is fun, and they most certainly know how to work a crowd. My favorite song of theirs was how they closed… they did that song “Shout” – again.. we jumped around. I was surprised that I could jump around… my personal trainer kicked my ass today (again). I also had an awesome time at my piano lesson. Perhaps some songs by me are coming soon
I asked Tracy what it’s like to have all the knowledge about someone from the start.. I didn’t really get a response- but it was at a concert. I think it’ll come up again. The funny thing is, I’m writing about her, and I know she’s reading now…..but I still write the same that I would write. I suppose it’s a take me as I am thing.
We did have some people approach us at the beer line and ask what show we’re here for. “Panic” “All of you?” “Yeah” “Oh… ’cause we thought it was only going to be 15 year olds.” Tracy, myself, and her sister are all 30 & 31. I don’t consider myself old yet, but yeah… I’ finished puberty a while ago. Instead of feeling old, I asked the guy “Wait… so what does it say about you then, that you came to a show that you were expecting nothing but 15 year old girls to be at?” Hmmmm….. The funny thing was, they paid $50 a ticket, we got them all for free
