My first Balloon Boy shirt Design

Maybe I haven’t done “Arts and Crafts” in a while… Yesterday I went  jogging through the woods, on the mountainbike trail, after the rain (so much fun! I was literally shouting “Wheeeee!” as I was sliding downhill, running off the walls of the trail, hurdling fallen branches, puddles, and small streams. While blasting music (usually it’s audio-books, but I needed a break), I got this idea that there’s already a bunch of people looking up Balloon Boy.  The 1st 2 shirts I saw were cute… but the design sucked.  Why not make a shirt that’s nice?  I mean… people are already looking for it, and I’m a marketer.

I called up two friends, and told them to make themselves available.  I”m pretty proud of the fact that neither one even asked what we were going to do… they know better.  I was excited.  As soon as I made it back home, I registered the domains http://buyballoonboyshirts.com/ and http://BalloonBoyWear.com.  It was a long night.  Heck.. I haven’t slept yet (and I am falling asleep while typing this).  But, you can’t launch a store, and not be ready for your clients.

So far, I have 3 designs.  Seriously, go check it out at http://BalloonBoyWear.com, and let me know what you thinkl  For the record, I’ve already gotten my 1st sale.  A major task for me has been trying to delegate.  So, I forced myself to, and offered my friend all the cash that I had in my wallet– $32 to make my logo for me.  I’m still waiting on it, though, in his defense, it was given to him extremely last minute, and I know he had another logo to have done by today.  We went over fonts using a screen-sharing app from Adobe.  I thought the quality was superb, but it was a bit overkill and cumberomse, as Skype now includes a screen-sharing functionaly, as well as many plugins (many of which are free)  to record calls, play games, share screens, and much much more.  I picked out about 3 fonts, but the whole point of delegation is to not have to be doing everything.  There is a minimal amount of attention that needs to be given, as well as feedback to ensure that you get the product you like.  However, I tend to always do it myself.  I decided that picking a font out isn’t my 1st step, especially since I don’t want to hand-hold.  I announced that I would scour the web for soe logo-inspiration, give my list of 20 top logos, and let him know the ones I think are the coolest.  That way at least he’ll get a feel for what makes me tick… he’ll know what I like, and possibly why.

That was a good and fun session.  We both felt inspired. My buddy found a few logos that were really heading in the right direction, but… being a workaholic, I ended up basically creating the logo right ther, but as a rough layout that Scott would have to clean up.  I had already set up a shop on CafePress.com -    I forwarded my domains there.  I set up a new e-mail, started sketching out ideas, brainstormed with Robert & Scott over what ideas.  I think this can grow as big as we want it to.

Anyways- I’ve fallen asleep at the keyboard while typing this… probably 8 times already.  I think that’s my cue to go take a nap.

Meanwhile though, everyone’s still talking about Falcon Henee…. everyone’s claiming it’s a hoax…. except of course the sherif & parents.  I don’t know… I think it’s a hoax.  I listened to the 911 call, and it’s not that impressive or convincing.  There were many people also tweeting that the parents called the news before they called the cops.  With things like these, it gets hard to distinguish the truth. But, you know what is absolutly truthful?  There’a s Balloon Boy Game now!

i just wanted to share that with you before I slam my face into the keyboard (I’ve zonked out a few more times since I wrote that a few sentences ago).

So, in summary:  A majority now thinks that kid’s a hoax, there’s a videogame about Falcon, I now have a store that you can purchase my designs for anywhere on your body, and I promise to get more designs out! Ok… zzzzzzz
