Everyone’s talking about Balloon Boy.  At first they were saying “Oh… the poor kid.. I hope he’s going to land safely.”  Then it was “The family says it’s not a scam.. they’re just glad he’s ok.”  It was during those times where I was saying “They’re a bunch of pricks, there’s no way the kid’s in the balloon, and if he is, he’s having a great adventure.” – now though, everyone wants to torch them (good thing they used Helium, not Hydrogen, eh?), and I’m thinking they’re not so bad.  Am I just that much of a devil’s advocate?  Here’ s a few reasons:Today’s links:  Balloon Family likely faces charges. CNN’s “Cops to search the house” my favorite — this is actually a good read! — “25 year old reveals how he helped Richard Henee plan the hoax– a Gawker exclusive!” which I really liked because it is a good read, tells what a crazy scumbag that Henee dude was… and it was purchased from a kid that Henee wasn’t paying for work that he was to be paid for.  I hate when people get ripped off… boo/hiss Henee (Every article spells their name differently- I’ll figure it out eventually).

So… they are actors, and they want publicity.  They did it!  They got more publicity than if they genuinely get on a tv show.  I think that they may get a few small fines, but I doubt “They’ll be made an example of.”  I predict that they demonstrated for the networks that their mad-scientist schemes for a tv show are valid, and attention grabbing.

In a fair world, they would get serious fines– basically, the fuel for the aircraft/vehicles used to search for the kid, the manpower costs, the expenses the Colorado airport had incurred.  I’m sure all of this would cost over $100,000.  But… this is America.  What will probably happen is that they will get a small fine on the wrist– trust me…even if it’s major, they’ll make more back in opportunities.  Standard media crap’s gonna happen. They’ll start getting paid appearances, may get their tv show, there will be book deals.

Everyone’s pissed off because they exposed some emotion for no reason… they cared, and then found out they were bamboozled…. and now they are acting as if this actualy cost THEM money.  They are acting as if they personally were deceived.  People… this si what you get for watching Mass Media anyways!  If It’s on FOX/CNN, it’s probably bullshit you shouldn’t watch anyways. So… be angry, but over what?  The graphic I started this post with is accurate: Get Over It!  It’s also one of my designs (thank you, thank you, I know it’s great), which is now available on: Balloon Boy Wear.  Promotion aside though… get over it!  Who cares.  Some little kid was never in danger, his dad came up with a good plan to get into the media, and you wasted 10 minutes of your day.  Boo hoo.  They were smart… inconsiderate, but clever.

I think that people need something to care about… This “Boy that cried wolf” is going to hurt the next event that may really have warranted some care.  But people care about some stupid crap!  I got a post coming today or tomorrow about a blind girl that pisses me off!
