Meet Joe (Couch 56)

Joe is in my circle of friends from South Florida. Joe and I have our birthdays just 1 day apart (15th & 16th of December). There was even an odd coincidence when we 1st met: we both bought the same car (1998 Camaro) 1 day apart (before we knew each other)! Anyways- my perception is that in our circle of friends, Joe is looked up to as a leader. He has a successful business, is a real go-getter, has an awesome wife, and wonderful life. Joe, and a group of the guys I run my ideas by in South Florida, were informed of my idea to go couch surfing at the start of the year, and everyone basically said “yeah.. go do what you really want!” but I guess not everyone thought I’d really do so well with CouchSurfingOri. When I got in to Florida for the holidays, and to go skydiving with Angela, I met up with the guys. Ivan confessed that at 54 couches (up to 58 now), I was about 45 couches further than he thought I’d make it. It’s amusing how many comments are said with “no offense, Ori!” No offense is taken with any of these comments. I like constructive criticism, and I like to hear what people think, even if I disagree. The guys have been discussing me frequently, thankfully as a success, as I am “living the dream.” When I was in town, we were discussing some goals, and I said I wanted to write CouchSurfingOri the book when this is all said and done. I guess some people (including Joe) weren’t so sure I’d be writing a book when it’s done.. with everything else that I’m doing, and my time management skills. One of my friends, Nick, said “Aren’t you blogging almost daily though? So.. isn’t your book basically already being written for you?” “I guess it is :)”

One month later, when we were all hanging out again, Joe had an announcement for us all. He said that he had fired his largest client, and it’s all because of CouchSurfingOri. He went on to explain that “This dumbass! (no offense, Ori) decides to just go travel, totally throws caution to the wind…. never worries about being homeless, getting lost, getting in trouble, injured, etc! And now he has a house! He has a frigging house! He throws caution to the wind and all this great stuff just happens to him! And now… his book is already written, and he didn’t even realize it!” (I sort of did realize that it would be based on my blog). So… Joe went on to tell us how he’s had this client that he’s had for 6 years now, whom he had built up to be the top in this particular industry. There were some people in that office who were making misery for the people in Joe’s office, and finally, based on how I throw caution to the wind, Joe just went for it, and canned the client… without tons of research or a set plan of what to do. He usually plans things out way in advance.

Everyone in his office was thrilled and joyous! What was the end result though? Because, I forgot to mention that this was Joe’s largest client, and not having another client in that industry, generating that kind of income, could be really bad for Joe’s company. Less than a week after he canned his client, he got a replacement client to completely replace the income of the 1st client dollar for dollar. Not only that, but this client was Joe’s dream client! They treat him as an expert, give him complete control, and have multiple offices with many more opening soon. Even more interesting is the series of coincidences that occured: The owner was coming in from Spain, just as Joe was setting things up with the people who manage the office.
