I woke up late again — guess I needed the sleep. The whole 6am bed-time thing is a tiny bit ridiculous, but… when you’re surrounded by cool awesome people, and all the action’s at night… you can expect this kind of stuff. I got my camera, brushed my teeth, and it was off to Roller Derby practice. It was interesting to see that (as Pope had told me when we were running the day prior) the sport uses girls of every single build. From petite ones that can make it past the blockers, to giant girls to be the rear blockers. The place they practice at is pretty colorful- they have arcades, and lots of neon stuff, lots of crazy airbrush art. The girls started to warm up. They had one round of actual practice… a jam.. when this old lady from the skate place steps onto the skate floor, “Attention ladies, there’s a giant storm coming.. 85 miles an hour… it’s covering four counties.. it’s going to be here in 25 minutes.” Everyone left, including us. I saw lightning all around us, as we drove. It started to rain, and we made it home. The news was telling everyone to stay away from the windows, to get in a basement, and kiss your ass good bye. A giant branch had fallen right behind my car. It was about the size of my car, so I’m lucky that it didn’t land on my car. I went downstairs, and watched “The Godfather” - I’ve never seen it before, as surprising as that is. I watched that, and could not believe that that was Al Pacino. I started to watch part 2, when Kitten came in and says “They’re not really ready yet, not even close to ready, but I have places I have to be now, so can you shoot now?” I didn’t even know that the people had arrived. I mean, we spoke about it, but then that Tornado warning came in. I went upstairs, and there were 4 girls in lingerie. Hooray! Kitten was a bit stressed out, so I shot real quick, and then it was much more laid back with the rest of the people. We shot singles and triples… we shot “studio” style in Pope’s huge closet… but I also had a lot of fun shooting available light on the veranda where they smoked. Then we had some fun downstairs, as I thought the chair down there looks awesome for shooting…. turns out I was right. We shot until 5:15am, and then called it a night. I went to tell them that I’m going to sleep, and all 3 girls are topless. It was a pleasant surprise. I wasn’t flirting, or staring, but these girls are lovely. What was fun was the interaction between all 3 of them during the evening. Again, I know I mention often how it’s the people that I like best on my journey– and it’s not just something I say - but it’s not just the people I meet. It’s the fact that I’m allowed into people’s lives… I get to meet them, their friends, their families, and see how they interact, and interact with them. I’ve done this enough now to where I am comfortable in most situations… I can walk in, be introduced to someone, and instantly be comfortable enough to treat them as my friends… to joke around with them… to make fun of them, or myself… to be able to listen to details of their personal lives, etc…. I like people. Who’s next? I’m now talking to Eric Fairwell, and may meet up with him in Tennessee for some white water rafting.
