I pull into Chicago. No major problems. It’s pretty hot out. Couch 42 walks outside, ready to go to the store. She doesn’t have her own car (her boyfriend does), and has been wanting to go to Calumet (an amazing camera super-store… kind of like B & H), and a costume store to pick up some bodypaint. Krysta has a short attention span, and likes to chime in with her way of doing things. It’s kind of cute actually… well.. I have a GPS, and she has an address for this store. She’s telling me how to get there, except making a wrong turn here, and not being 100% certain- “It should be around here somewhere” kind of a thing. I’m driving past this one street when she says “Turn here!” — this is how I crashed my 1st car after 4 days! I turn, and *THUNK* A woman on a bicycle had ran into my car… She was in my blind spot, and I had cut her off while making that emergency turn. I left my car on, stopped, left my door open, and ran to assist this poor woman…. She looked all right. I had asked a million times if she was all right, and she kept saying she was. Her front tire was a little bent, and she seemed to bend it back herself, with her legs. The chain had come off, and I had fixed that for her (all the while asking if I she’s absolutely sure that she’s ok). I asked her if she wanted me to call anyone, or drive her anywhere. She kept saying no. I don’t think she wanted too much attention drawn to herself. Say what you will about stereotypes, but we were in a not-so-great part of town. She was about to take off, but one of her flip-flops had totally ripped in the accident. I offered her mine in stead, and she had agreed to wear those, after a ponder. At least this way, she’ll be more comfy. They were a pretty comfortable set.
After that, Krysta didn’t try to tell me where to go…. we switched to using the GPS, and it was an easy ride. That kind of crap is pretty scary though! A second later, and I would have run over some lady! People are pretty fragile! Nothing like manslaughter to bring a perfectly good couch surfing trip to an end, eh? Good thing I have great luck (seems better than that lady’s luck!). Anyways… we got to Calumet, and Krysta speeds off to go in the store. I called her and asked her to wait. “Why? What’s up?” “Ummm.. I need to get my SHOES out of the car and put them on!” She got a Spyder2 monitor calibrator, and then we went to the costume store where Krysta got some body paint, feathers, and a few other toys.
The rest of the evening was spent shooting, editing, and on the phone.
