Heading up North….

I’ve stayed in the South East too long. Not that I don’t like it- heck, I bought a place here, didn’t I? It’s just that I once again feel as if I’m not making enough progress… I’m with the same crowd again, doing many of the same things…. Time to move on.
I have a lot of invites to Chicago, and I’d like to interview a few photographers in Chicago and Detroit… so.. that’s my next direction. I met with Susan for lunch yesterday, and had a wonderful Salmon BLT with some yummy mashed potatoes. We chatted about her trip to Africa, and some of her other adventures around the world. She had told me she had an idea, and wanted to see me in person to tell me. Her idea was that I can stop in Indiana on my way to Chicago, and CouchSurf at her parents’ place. They are in rural Indiana, on the water, a lakehouse of sorts, there’s some kind of Ferry Boat that goes around the lake– one of them paddle boats. There are flying squirrels, and all sorts of other crazy animals. That, and Susan will be there as well. She’s a swell gal, and was actually supposed to be one of the couches earlier on, but she travels so much, that it hadn’t happened. I said I’d be thrilled to go there.
As we were finishing lunch, I got a call returned from Tsubasa, a fellow photographer / digital artist. I had just discovered his work the previous day, and had e-mailed him to see if I can couch-surf there, or if I can at least grab an interview. It’s really cool to get to meet the people who’s work you like. It’s like calling Jimmy Hendrix (he hasn’t been picking up the phone lately though), and saying “Hey.. I like how you play guitar, can I come over and interview you… maybe pick your brain a little bit?” Anyways- that was yesterday… our interview is tonight. After lunch, I went to Tom Jumper Chevy, where they had made me my new spare key for my car, and programmed the new remote for me…. apparently, when you program a remote, the car’s frequency changes, and your old remotes don’t work. I had my folks ship me my old remote, and now took all 3 remotes there, and they programmed them.
My cigarette lighter in the car was not working as of late. That was a concern, as I charge my GPS, my cell phone, and occasionally my laptop, or battery chargers through that. I went to a gas station, bought some fuses, and found out that my car has these tiny fuses, not the standard sized one. I returned the fuses, and all of a sudden the lighter worked. I guess just taking the fuse out, and putting it back in seemed to do the trick.
I got home, and showed these lovely girls my condo. They are interested in renting it out, and they seem nice enough. I told them that while yes, the place is beautiful, and spacious, and has lots of nature around…. the real value is that I will give them the remaining 4 rolls of toilet paper, and 1/2 a bottle of detergent absolutely free if they sign up :) My last post describes what happened later- with my dreaded nightmare of a broken camera having come true.
