It’s so easy to be lazy, and work…. I don’t mean being lazy as in “sit around and watch TV” (although MySpace sucks up more time than I’d like it to), I mean that since I have tens of thousands of photos to go through from this trip alone… and writing new content.. and editing video… and trying to find my next couch (I’m driving to New Mexico on Saturday, and I don’t even have a couch there yet… I do have one for Sunday night, but not - yet - for Saturday), and even sleeping an hour or 2. So, by being lazy, I mean that I sit on my ass and work… instead of going exploring.
Janet had suggested I go to this place… I’ll have to get the name in the morning, ’cause I already forgot…. but I had to deal with some banks, had to create content, etc.. etc.. etc.. Finally at 2pm, despite that it was cold, and even rainy… I decided that I can work anywhere… but I came to Arizona, and I want to see something that’s Arizona’ish… and that I certainly accomplished! I shot all these rock formations / cliffs, and even a few ducks. It was beautiful. I am so glad I got off my ass, and went! It didn’t even take all day… just like an hour and a half… 2 hours… Granted, I was exhausted from the night before, so I took a nap… but then we went out for even MORE shooting! This was a big surprise.
At the high school, there was a show of “Mark Wood” - for those who are not familiar w/ Mark Wood, he is an award winning composer, performer, and acknowledged as the premier electric rock violinist of his time. He’s performed with Dee Snider, The Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Celine Dion, Billy Joel, Lenny Kravitz, and Jewel… He’s done a lot more than just that, but … that’s just to give you the caliber of this guy. He had a great stage presence, as did the other performer, Laura Kaye, who also has a reputation… other than her solo work, she’s worked with Aretha Franklin and James Brown to name a few… They were there for a program that inspires young children, called “Electrify Your Strings” — I was blown away! They are such great people (and they offered me a couch in New York later this year)… what they are doing is awesome.. they are inspiring children to play violin, or sing… These kids were so amazed (as were the adults) by the show… but… I stuck around and watched their conversations with the kids… They complimented them all on their performances (the kids got to perform with them- a large orchestra, and a large choir), they were patient, they complimented them on their looks… they made people feel good about themselves…. Your deity of choice sure knows we could all use some confidence, dreams, hopes, and self-esteem. These guys are providing that!
On a side note- I shot the entire evening using my Gary Fong LightSphere II that I was given at my workshop.
An interesting thing is that they came through “Young Audiences” a group that I will be speaking with very shortly, to see if I can provide photography training to large quantities of children across the USA. I just taught my 1st workshop in San Diego, and it was a total hit. I can certainly make the content interesting…. but the great thing is that my workshops are not photography workshops, nor photoshop workshops… they are somewhere in between, but mostly challenge photographers to think for themselves.
Pics coming soon
