My drive from San Diego was gorgeous! I hadn’t stopped to get all the Mountain shots that I wanted… but … it was very relaxing.
My car is so wonderful! Itmade yet another trip with no issue. The issue, of which I was warned ahead of time, was with the GPS. The street I am looking for is too new, so the GPS will not find it. What I did then, was to tell the lady (whom I only called today- I met her @ the LA Workshop) that I’ll call her once I got into town, and thus I went looking up the city, Nogales, on the GPS. This took me REALLY close to the border…. The Mexican border… I saw that the freeway was ending, and decided to call her – she had warned me to stay on the freeway when making calls, or I might get a Mexican Signal, and sprint may try to charge me roaming into Mexico… even though I hadn’t gone (easily disputable)- so I pulled over just off the freeway, and called Janet. It was pretty scary actually, because I pulled forward, and saw a Jeep pulling up to the intersection, so I rolled my window down and asked if I turn left here, or at the stop sign, in order to get to the OTHER direction on the freeway. Next thing I know, I am surrounded by Border Patrol vehicles… they’re looking into my car… asking me if I’m ok… who was I on the phone with? Who’s my friend (I said I was on the phone w/ my friend) — I just happened to have her business card in my hand, and I took out one of mine… “You’re a photographer?†“yes†– and I had my camera on top of the dashboard anyways…. So… they checked out that I called the number I said I did…. And I was let go. It was actually scary—my foot was shaking a little bit.

Yeah we know you had a couple of mexicans in the trunk!
CSO = Coyote surfing Ori buwhahahah
I once crossed back into the US, from Mexico, at Nogales. Just before the border guard, there was a yellow line, painted on the road - where I was to stop and wait for the car in front of me. I guess my front tires crossed sightly over the line. When it was my turn to pull up to the guard, he chewed my ass out for going over the line. I was just sort of listening to him, when he said, “What if I’d have had to shoot at the car in front of you?”
I really didn’t have an answer — never even realized that the yellow line could stop bullets!!!!
True story.
