Last night I helped my bro install this piece of software (I’m the techie in the family) that lets the ipod display Hebrew characters.
He has tried it a few times, and has had no success. It’s even gone as far as to wipe out all the tunes on his Ipod.

He showed me the process of installation, the documentation (my Hebrew reading skills are much weaker than his), and his attempt at installing it… which failed. I’m not saying my brother is not intelligent– he’s friggin brilliant actually — but he kept saying how “This is the part where it craps out” and “maybe my computer is broken…” After all that, he went to brush his teeth, and it was my turn to try. I said I would get it, without a problem. I started by moving the USB cable to the back of the computer, rather than the front USB port… then I ran the installation. Despite my brother coming into the room and telling me how it’s not going to work, I kept saying how it will. I stroked the Ipod, and told it that it is a great Ipod (certainly a nicer looking one than mine! This one’s shiny, black, and with a colorful screen…. I got the old-school white one, with lots of scratches, and a monochrome screen), that this is going to work, that this will definitely work…

Sure enough– it worked! Did I do anything differently than my brother? Not really…. there’s not much to do on the installation other than double click the icon, accept the copyright notice, plug the Ipod to the computer, hit “next” a few times, and launch Itunes. The difference is that he was sure that it would fail, and I was certain that I would succeed. I was nice to the computer and the Ipod. Am I crazy? Perhaps… it is often said, and I am known for my crazy imagery, but “somehow” it worked when I had the certainty it would. The same thing works well with traffic lights.
