Day 12- A long drive from Georgia to Texas.

Melissa’s comforter was so comfortable! I could sleep on it all day long. She gave me 2 bananas and sent me on my way. I was pretty bummed ’cause I was hoping to spend some time with her- do a photo shoot and interview. Since I did not know where I’m headed yet, I was glad to see the GPS had directions by City. I love my Nuvi!

I drove and made phone calls. That was most of my day. I did stop in Montgomery, AL in a Starbucks, and I asked “Where am I?” I got a strange look.. “What city am I in?” “Montgomery” “What’s cool in Montgomery?” “Nothing!” Sounds like incentive to keep going, no? I bought some coffee and a lemon-cake with the gift-card Cymonne gave me. I sat outside and chatted with her as I ate. It bugged me that I’m in this new area, and yet it’s Anywhere, USA. That’s the reason I’m Couch Surfing. I did not want just another friggin hotel rioom, Barnes & Nobles, Starbucks, WaMu, BoFa, Wendy’s, Arby’s, Mcdonalds, and the same shit you see in every single city! I want the cool stuff that locals know about.

Drove. Filled Gas. Drove. Filled Gas. Ate Chips.

I drove through Alabama, and traveled in time. Once in Alabama, I had entered Central timezone. I made it through Alabama pretty quickly, and into Mississippi. I took a shot of the Biloxi water tower, and some bridge. Louisiana was a long state to drive through! I had to take a nap after eating all I could eat pizza at Cici’s pizza. Again- thanks Nuvi GPS for finding it!

I’m so happy that I can finally stay in touch with my friends! I have the time now to chat all day long as I drive. In the past I was hunkered down with work all the time, and would not have the time to chat. I got to catch up with many people… I kept calling Mom and Dad every time I made it to a new state. I finally ended with Texas. I arrived at 10pm Central Time. I then made it to Houston, and still did not know where I was going. People drive insanely quickly! I pulled over on this one shoulder, so I could take some killer photos of downtown. It was less than 5 minutes before a Tow-Truck came to tow me! I was surprised, and impressed. The driving was so bad, and my mirrors were so dirty, that I was actually pretty close to scared. So, instead of opening my door, and having it smashed to pieces by a speeding Texan, I was taking photos through my open sun-roof. The guy said I can’t be there.. I explained who I was, what I’m doing, and made sure to give him a card— and of course a photo of him walking away, for a souvenier.

I pulled into a gas station and filled up on gas, but more importantly, I bought some glass-wipes, so I could clean my windows from the inside and outside. I used the squeegie to clean the dirt off my car a bit also. I called Phil (whom I never met or spoke to before), Tim’s Dad, and he did not know if he would be around, or if I’d be able to come over with the photos of his grandkids. He kept telling me to call him back later, and later, and later… so when I finally got there, it was like 12:15am. We chatted for a while. He showed me many family photos. I showed him the pictures of his grandkids. We exchanged stories, and talked about family. He finally went to sleep, and I stayed up very late copying the Atlanta images to hard drive. Cari (couch #2) called me up pretty late, but I was up. We chatted about some cool energy-reading woman, the universe, flying, planes, plans, and reminisced about when I was there. She is the coolest person I’ve met.
